The Music Stand, created to accompany the Bard's Chair, celebrates the Celtic Oral Tradition in a rich, lustrous hardwood. Like the Chair, the Music Stand's rich medium mahogany is accentuated with three curved legs, ornate carvings in subdued colors (red, blue, green, white, and yellow), and zoomorphic figures. The Music Stand is mildly distressed and darkened in the crevices and some edges, to show aging.
The Stand's head is outlined in a fluted curve embellished with Celtic knots and weaves, while the bottom is lined with a rolling Celtic scroll, often used to symbolize ocean waves in the Book of Kells. In keeping with its antiquated theme, the Stand's head can be raised and lowered by a simple hooking structure, making it functional for the sitting musician or the standing singer.
