At our house, the “bard’s chair” is the “piper’s chair” and it occupies pride of space/space of pride as it commands a view over the forest and hills to the north. More than a chair, it sits among the musical instruments of the house as the focal point of the living room, and the craftsmanship, design, and ornamentation happily merges with the pipes, fiddles, and harp lying at hand nearby. The order took no time at all, and the chair arrived in a container so durable I use it as a worktable in the garage. The model I ordered lacks the wee shelf which, although beautiful, posed a threat to the loss of a pint to elbow, drone, or bellows, which living in a dry county as we do, I just couldn’t face! Frankly, the chair is so beautiful that most of my friends decline to sit in it, or perhaps it is because they recognize the personal nature of the chair and select one that doesn’t have my “name” on it. But it is greatly admired for the utilitarian art that it is, enhanced knowing that its designer and maker is a piper, too. There are many times that I choose not to sit in it, but across from it so that I can see instead of feel it. This morning the first sun was on it, putting the phoenix carved in the back into bold relief and colour. It is a treasure…

We are so happy about our recent purchase of two of the Bard Chairs. We purchased the chairs because of the wonderful artistic design work which was put into each of the chairs. The Bard Chair exudes a sort of "medieval era" from long ago Ireland. We have heard the comment from friends and family alike that the chair is more than just a magnificent piece of furniture; it is also a beautiful piece of art. And to top it all, it is very comfortable to sit in! The workmanship is top of the line, and looks as if it has been around for centuries. I hope Irish Furniture will expand its ideas and produce more of this magnificent art/furniture in the future, as I would like to get purchase some additional quality pieces that work with the Chairs.

It has been a truly wonderful experience working with Irish Furniture. Keep up the good work. I would not hesitate in recommending Irish Furniture as a well-run, high product company with excellent service and value for money.

The Bard's chair has been a wonderful addition to my home. The brilliant craftsmanship and sturdy construction make it a timeless piece. Its unique design and integrity to the Irish culture and Celtic tradition inspired me. My interaction with Eileen and Gabriel McKeagney at Irish Furniture was professional, warm and very helpful. Their character and the quality of their products are priceless.

I ordered one of Irish Furniture’s exceptionally beautiful, hand-made Bard’s Chairs as a surprise Christmas present for my wife. What I received is a stunningly handsome, original work of art. The art incorporated into the carvings on the Chair’s back and legs is immediately recognizable and absolutely distinctive. Gabriel has used the art in the Book of Kells a basis for his own unique designs upon the Chairs.

The craftsmanship is magnificent; no bit of detail left unnoticed. Everywhere. Solid construction, which I think implicitly guarantees that our piece will be around another 100 years (at least). The luster is deep, showing the multiple layers of finish, all looking like what they are: hand-rubbed. It’s a deep mahogany tone that is very elegant and unobtrusive, but at the same time stands out on even a cursory viewing. It’s a great addition to our living room, and receives comments every time we have guests. Very comfortable, too…

You should have been there when my wife saw it Christmas morning: open-mouthed and absolutely riveted. Oh, was that worth it!

I am delighted with my very own Bard’s Chair that was crafted by Irish Furniture. Within this piece, form and function come together effortlessly to provide a true work of art. The chair is of superb construction and is the “perfect” seat for musicians who would use it on a daily basis. The design is authentic Irish, inspired by years of study of illuminated manuscripts and a lifetime of first-hand experiences in carving and woodworking by Gabriel McKeagney, a native Irishman, and the founder of Irish Furniture. It is so aesthetically pleasing in many ways that it also serves as a fine showpiece in our home. Most visitors, and especially session musicians who have the opportunity to use the chair, are so enamored with the work that they express an interest in learning of the craftsman and making a purchase. The Bard’s Chair is truly a unique piece that will add interest to any décor and will provide a lifetime of use for any sort of seating needs that one could imagine.
